Poet küçük İskender has passed away

Poet küçük İskender, who was under cancer treatment for a while, has lost his life. Kaos GL said, “küçük İskender’s literary and philosophical output and contributions to the LGBTI+ society will be remembered forever, they will continue to be a shining star in our history.”

One of the leading names of contemporary Turkish poetry, the poet küçük İskender, has passed away because of cancer which he was under treatment for a while.

Gay poet küçük İskender, who has struggled against heterosexualism in his literature and personal life, has composed works in many genres such as poetry, novels, essays and diaries. küçük İskender is a pun intended pseudonym, as it means Alexander the little. He has received the Orhan Murat Arıburnu Prize in 2000, Melih Cevdet Anday Poetry Award in 2006, Erdal Öz Literature Award in 2014 and Necatigil Poetry Award in 2017.

Kaos GL Association has published a message of condolence for the poet küçük İskender:

We are deeply saddened to lose küçük İskender early, who became one of the leading names  of LGBTI+ literature in Turkey with the breath of fresh air, the new language that he brought to poetry and his open identity and as one of the leading representatives of our contemporary literature.
