AHM Call for Symposia and Forums

Kaos GL has formed a Consultative Board (CB) for the International Anti-Homophobia Meeting (AHM) and has issued a call for symposia and forums.

 

The 7th Meeting will take place in March and May again and will be completed with ‘The March Against Homophobia and Transphobia’ on 20 May 2012, Sunday.

5 Symposia will be organized in the fields of struggle for the rights of LGBT individuals and social rights.

 

In the Symposia where the social rights will be discussed, medicalization of sexuality, discriminatory implementations that are justified with ‘family values’, ‘obscenity’, ‘public morality’ and conservative policies which institutionalize inequality will be handled.

 

The Meeting Coordinators indicated that the ‘Academic Forums’ that were held in Ankara and Istanbul last era, will be organized as ‘symposium’ in the 7th Meeting.

 

The Symposia that will be organized in the context of AHM are as follows:

 

‘Housing Right, The Gender of The Space and The City’, ‘The Fields of Social Services for LGBT Individuals’, ‘Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity Discrimination in Education’, ‘Working Life, Employment, Trade Union Movement’. A Symposium titled ‘The Course of Homosexuality from Illness to Legal Claim and LGBT Struggle Against Inequality’ will be organized for the right to health.

 

The forums that will be organized in the context of the Meeting are as follows: ‘Media – Communication Forum’, ‘Trans Forum’, ‘The Virility Forum’, ‘Lesbians and Bisexual Women’s Forum’, ‘Art Forum’, ‘Anti-Militarist Forum’, ‘Anarcho-Queer Forum’, ‘Friend Z. Özger Meeting’, ‘The Forum Against Borders: What Do The Doors Shut By Nationalism Cover Up?’, ‘Social Policies and LGBT Rights Forum’, ‘Immigration Workshop’ and ‘The Rainbow Film Days’.

The Feminist Forum that has been held in every Meeting since 2006 becomes an international two-day forum in the 2012 Meeting.

 

Kaos GL, who controls the ‘International Feminist Forum’, has appealed to the women’s organizations particularly in Middle-Eastern and North African countries. The Meeting Coordination indicated that they would get in touch with the representatives of the feminist organizations from Turkey directly for the Feminist Forum.

 

In the ‘International Feminist Forum’, it will be discussed that how a discourse and practice against homophobia and transphobia can be created in the struggle against sexism of feminist/women movement, based on the specificity of the regions where Islamıc/conservative policies and regimes are dominant.

 

‘The Regional Network Against Homophobia’ meeting that has been held for the first time in the scope of the previous Meeting and participated by anti-homophobics and the representatives of LGBT organizations from the Caucasian, Middle-Eastern and the Balkan countries, will be held fort he second time in the scope of the 7th Meeting.

Kaos GL Association made the decision of establishing a ‘Consultative Board’ in the 4th Ordinary General Assembly on 11 June 2011.

The Consultative Board where people who successfully study on sexual orientation and gender identity discrimination and against homophobic/transphobic attitudes and practices in accordance with the purposes of the Association, can get involved in, can be expanded through the studies of the Association.

 

The members will be chosen from among native or foreign scientists, social workers, communicators, psychologists, academicians, experts, authors, sexual health experts, psychological consultants, researchers, educators, lawyers, artists and people who pay close attention to the Association at home or abroad.

The abstracts under the stated titles for the Symposia and the Forums that will be organized in the context of the Anti-Homophobia Meeting are expected.

 

Those who want to present a paper in the indicated Symposia of Forums in the context of the AHM, need to e-mail their abstract along with a brief curriculum vitae to kaosgl@kaosgl.org until 19 December 2011.

The papers presented in the AHM events, will be published in the Anti-Homophobia Book that is prepared each year after the Meeting. 4 thousand Books are printed and distributed among academia, civil society and LGBT community.
