According to the news report in Birgün newspaper; Antalya Governorship banned all protests and events across the province for 15 days. In the Governorship’s statement, Antalya Pride Month events to be held between July 1-15 were targeted.

The Governorship’s statement is as follows:

“All kind of activities (meeting and attempt to meet, making a press statement, marching, carrying out sit-in protest, setting up a table / tent, distributing leaflets, protesting, hanging a banner / poster, organizing a festival, sports competition, panel discussion, conference, seminar, film screening, picnic and etc.) which are planned to be held indoors and out with the aim of supporting or protesting the events carried out by diverse communities, platforms and NGO’s, are banned on the grounds of Article 17 of Law no. 2911 on Meetings and Demonstration and Article 11/a and 11/c of the Provincial Administration Law no. 5442, in Antalya from 01.07.2024 to 15.07.2023, for fifteen (15) days.”

The Antalya Governorship published and then deleted a ban decision for LGBTI+ events scheduled from July 1-15 on its website on July 2nd. As of now, there is no such decision available on the Governorship’s website. Speaking to KaosGL.org, Lawyer Ahmet Çevik mentioned that the ban decision was published and deleted within half an hour, stating, “There is probably a ban decision, but it seems to have been leaked to partisan media. Although the Governorship removed the ban decision from its website, pro-government media continues to report that there is a ban in place.” The Antalya 10th Pride Month Committee invites everyone to a press statement at the Antalya Human Rights Association on Wednesday, July 3, 2024, at 16:00.
