Trans Pride Week: We stake a claim on the memory of our friend. We are here for Deniz, and we mourn for her.
Following Palmiye Deniz’s death, Trans Pride Week held a press conference at Human Rights Association (İHD).
Right defenders said, “Deniz’s death could have been prevented” after the death of homeless trans woman Palmiye Deniz.
The press statement included the following expressions:
“They could not fit Deniz in İstanbul, in the world. They killed Deniz. The hatred and abandonment policy of the transphobic and misogynist state also targeted Deniz. Transphobic and misogynist policies created by the state killed Deniz! The state, which withdrew from the İstanbul Convention at a single stroke, neither paid attention to the voice of woman organizations nor the demands of the LGBTI+ organizations, which have been working in the field for years.”
