The book titled “Gynecology Conversations” published by Kaos GL Association was discussed at the 4th Multidisciplinary Neuroscience Congress organized by the Neuroscience Student Society of Ankara University.

The “Women and LGBT+ Health” session of the Multidisciplinary Neuroscience Congress, organized by the Neuroscience Student Society of Ankara University for the fourth time this year, took place on Sunday 22 October at the Abdülkadir Noyan Conference Hall.

Aslı Alpar from Kaos GL was the speaker at the session, which was attended by students from the medical, psychology, biology, veterinary and engineering faculties of various universities, particularly Ankara University.

At the event, Alpar spoke about the experiences of people who have been subjected to approaches and practices that ignore patients’ rights during gynecological examinations by referring her series of articles took place in the book titled “Gynecology Conversations”.

Alpar also talked about the interviews they had with doctors and activists while working on the book and said:

“In April 2017, we started publishing them on KaosGL.org, and in 2020, we published them as a book. The inspiration for this series of articles came from an email from Irmak, a gay woman. Irmak said that she shared her sexual orientation with doctors during gynecological examinations, and that every time she became an object of curiosity for the doctors.”

Contributions to the book by Dr. Filiz Ak, Dr. Asu Özel, Canan from the Association of Women with Disabilities (ENKADER), gynecologist Irmak Saraç, psychiatrist Seven Kaptan and Özge from lgbtisagligi.org were also discussed in the session, which was illustrated with excerpts from the book in order to be steeped in gynecology.

Following the exchange of experiences, the event was completed with questions and suggestions from the participants.
