‘I hindered a lesbian, who wanted to have her vagina out. We cannot allow this child to be on her own’.
Homophobia and transphobia by Prof. Dr. Aliye Mavili Aktas, Dean of Selcuk University Faculty of Health Sciences, in Parliament Divorce Commission: “I hindered a lesbian, who wanted to have her vagina out. We cannot allow this child to be on her own”.
Discrimination continues in the Parliamentary Research Commission founded with the decision taken in December 2015.
After AKP Isparta MP Sait Yuce addressed to lawyer Hulya Gulbahar from Equality Monitoring Women Group (ESITIZ), who was invited for a presentation, with statements like “Know your place while talking”, “Go and talk outside”, “I am trying to put you where you belong to”, in the meeting two weeks ago, homophobic and transphobic discrimination happened this time.
“Lesbians cannot be left on their own”
Dr. Aliye Mavili Aktas, Dean of Selcuk University Faculty of Health Sciences who attended commission’s meeting, held on 25th of February, as an expert, confused lesbians with Trans men. She claimed that “if lesbians were left alone, they would be condemned to a future that lacks self-worth”.
Here is Aktas’s speech in the minutes:
“I prevented a doctor’s daughter, saying “I’m a lesbian. I will not be with men but women”, from the decision of having her vagina out, but still, this person is preparing to marry a man now, yet there is the situation that being influenced by a cyber group she founded in internet, and consequently she identifies her sexual identity as lesbian. Now, if we left this child alone and to her freedom in her room, we would have the risk of condemning her to a future, which would lack her own sexuality’s features and self-worth. I consider such a freedom and fate cycle like black and white cycle; they coexist. Freedom, the destined… We all came in this country in this time, we all was born in this time, this is our sexuality, this is our beauty and ugliness, this is our body features, this is our thinking capacity, but our choice-making ability…
What happened?
