DEM Party Women’s Assembly Spokesperson Halide Türkoğlu made a press statement today and talked about the 10th Trans Pride March. Türkoğlu said, “We will not allow politics based on discrimination.”
Halide Türkoğlu, the Spokesperson for the Women’s Assembly of the People’s Equality and Democracy Party (DEM party), made a press statement today and spoke about the 10th Istanbul Trans Pride March. She condemned the attacks on Özgül Saki and Kezban Konukçu for unfurling the trans flag on the Golden Horn Bridge:
“We also witnessed the attacks against the 10th Trans Pride March in Istanbul. It is the government itself that encourages hate crime, empowering the attackers. We emphasize that we will fight against all forms of attacks on different sexual identities. We condemn the attacks targeting our Istanbul MPs Kezban Konukçu and Özgül Saki for their show of solidarity. Our ideology and our party’s tree have room for all the oppressed. Democracy is for everyone. We do not engage in politics based on denial and discrimination, nor do we allow it to be done. We are fighting for a society where we can live together with our differences. We will not let the struggles of the oppressed be turned against each other. We will continue the fight for equality and justice everywhere against the powers that oppress, ignore, and exploit us.”
