The third case hearing of the anti-gay hate crime committed in Diyarbakır has taken place on 18 January 2013.
17-year-old gay R.Ç. was murdered in Diyarbakır by his father and two uncles for whom aggravated life imprisonment has been demanded. Following the hearings on 16 November and 7 December, the perpetrators has still been accusing each other for the crime.
Court Accepts Intervention of SPoD for the Case
Social Policies, Gender Identity and Sexual Orientation Studies Association (SPoD) has demanded intervention into R.Ç. case via Attorney at Law Fırat Söyle.
Söyle said the court accepted SPoD’s intervention despite the objections of defense attorneys.
Söyle said there were no one to defend the victim killed because of his sexual orientation but attorneys for the accused, for this reason, they wanted to intervene in court case. He reminded that Black Pink Triangle Association intervened in Azra Has case. İzmir Heavy Penalty Court agreed on the intervention of Black Pink Triangle Association into the cases of Ezra Yaşar, Ayşe Selen Ayla and Azra Has killed in April 2010.
Diyarbakır Bar Association Follows Case Process
The LGBT Associations in Diyarbakır -Hebûn and KeSKeSoR-, LİSTAG, ESP, HDK, KAMER, representatives of political parties as well as Diyarbakır Bar Association president and members of board have followed the case.
4.Hearing Set for 4 Feb.
The next hearing will be held by Diyarbakır third Heavy Penalty Court for Feb. 4 at 1.30pm.
Söyle stated the case was associated with “the act of intentional killing is committed with premeditation” and therefore, the crime would be ‘aggravated life imprisonment’.
