Cemre Öktem, the actor of the Turkish TV series Sefirin Kızı: “I cannot tolerate this mindset. Femicides, trans murders, fascist murders… LBGT rights are human rights, it’s 2020 now, enough is enough!"

Cemre Öktem, who plays the character of Zehra in the TV series Sefirin Kızı on Star TV, gave an interview to Oya Çınar from Posta Newspaper.

To the Çınar's question of "Do you think about the issues related to the public agenda? What are the most troubling issues for you right now? " Öktem replied as "homophobia":

"There are so many things... The homophobia in the world and especially in Turkey upsets me greatly. Just as people's language, religion and color do not concern us; yet even this is still a matter of debate, unfortunately… I find it arrogant to interfere in the bedrooms and hearts of people we do not know, to invade that space. What does it matter who loves whom, who has a relationship with whom? How can we intervene in this? "

Upon the Çınar’s question of “Isn't it really weird?”, Öktem replies as “LGBTI rights are human rights, it’s 2020 now, enough is enough!”:

I cannot tolerate this mindset. Femicides, trans murders, fascist murders… LBGT rights are human rights, it’s 2020 now, enough is enough! We shouldn't discuss these. Everyone tries to use their own power against what they see as weak; I just can't comprehend this torment and lovelessness against women, animals and nature. It is very upsetting to witness this…
