The program, held in the Pera Museum Auditorium from June 28 to July 10, features The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert and Hedwig and the Angry Inch, two cult films that have become iconic with their inspiring stories, connecting queer culture with mainstream cinema for a wider audience.

“The Suna and İnan Kıraç Foundation Pera Museum’s Film and Video Programming presents i’m not afraid of anything, a program specially for Pride Month, which follows the stories of characters progressing fearlessly on their unique journeys, between June 28 and July 10.

Celebrating its 30th anniversary this year, Priscilla Queen of the Desert is a legendary film that won the Academy Award for Best Costume Design. Renowned for its stunning costumes, unforgettable music, and breathtaking views of the Australian desert, this iconic production continues to be cherished by audiences worldwide. In the film by Stephan Elliott; Tick, Adam, and Bernadette, who are contracted to perform a drag show at the remote resort town of Alice Springs in Australia’s outback, hop on their lavender-colored veteran tour bus “Priscilla” and embark on a colorful journey from Sydney to the countryside. Along the way, they meet different characters and communities, encountering adventures where they battle prejudices and rediscover their identities.

A close-up of drag culture: Directed by John Cameron Mitchell, Hedwig and the Angry Inch tells the story of Hansel Schmidt, growing up in a dysfunctional family in East Germany and dreams of becoming a rock star. As searching for a way out, Hansel meets and falls in love with an American soldier named Luther. To legally marry and move to the United States, Hansel’s fiancé and mother force them to undergo gender reassignment surgery, becoming Hedwig. While trying to find their sexual identity, Hedwig discovers the art of drag as a means of survival and ultimately undergoes another transformation, accepting themself as they are.”

Pera Film screenings can be seen with a discounted museum ticket. A ticket should be obtained from Biletix and the museum reception for free admissions as well.
