AKP Deputy Chairperson Hayati Yazıcı stated that they have put on their agenda a constitution to be written from A to Z. The phrase “Marriage union can only be established by the marriage between a man and a woman” will be added to the Article 41 of the Constitution which will go to referendum.
Speaking to A Haber, Justice and Development Party (AKP) Deputy Chairperson Hayati Yazıcı said that they would like to realize the constitutional amendment in this period, which was put aside after Kahramanmaraş-centered earthquakes.
Yazıcı announced the closure of the way for a return to the parliamentary system with the following statements: “This nation should be able to draft a new constitution. We desire this. We hope to write such a constitution from A to Z in this parliament and then submit it to the approval of the nation through a referendum.”
What does constitutional amendment include?
Constitutional amendment was put on the agenda by the Justice and Development Party (AKP), Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) and Great Union Party (BBP) at the Parliamentary Speaker’s Office on December 9, 2022. The proposal included “constitutional guarantee for the headscarf and redefinition of the family”.
Urologist Prof. Dr. Zeki Bayraktar, who is famous for his ideological and discriminatory speeches against LGBTI+s, had attributed homosexual and transgender existence to “faulty parental attitudes in early childhood” within the scope of his claims which are deprived of scientific validity. He had justified the proposal, which aims to redefine the family with a discriminatory motive in the Constitution, by “the responsibility of the state to protect mental and physical health of the citizens” claiming that “the average life cycle of LGBTI+s is sixteen to twenty years shorter”.
The title Article 41 of the new Constitution, which will be put to referendum, will be amended to read “Protection of the family, marriage union and children’s rights” and “Marriage union can only be established by the marriage of a man and a woman” statement will be added as the second necessity to be considered as a family.
