“As Young LGBTI+ Association, we declare that we stand by the people of İkizköy and once again say freedom for the people, the animals and the earth.”
Young LGBTI+ Association announced that they stood by the people of İkizköy against the ecologic destruction in Akbelen forests. The association made a statement in order to support villagers’ resistance against the felling of trees with the aim of building a thermal power station:
“The struggle of the villagers against the thermal power station aimed to be built in #Akbelen forests, has been going on for two years. The logging teams, supported by the gendarmerie, entered the forest area and began curing the tress of , despite two-year efforts of the people, who have been fighting for the life of the forest and the people and animals living there. The people of İkizköy, including elderly, were subjected to severe violence and repression by using water cannons and pepper spray as they resisted in order to protect their lives. The government, which has failed to intervene in forest fires last year due to having not enough power or didn’t prefer to use it’s power, continues to usurp our habitats and to plunder nature by destroying the forests. As Young LGBTI+ Association we declare that we stand by the people of İkizköy and once again say freedom for the people, the animals and the earth.”
