About the “Damp” exhibition

“Damp embarks on a journey of discovery, viewing the interrelation of materials as an experiment. ‘Vazolar’ (2024), requiring undivided attention, begin their evolving and unpredictable production practices, continuing to form and transform throughout the exhibition. The artist initiates the process with a minimal plan, then continues to engage in various roles such as nurturer, audience, and observer. Unlike traditional vases, by keeping the clay wet without firing it, the artist provides a space for the variability of these forms by displaying "earth-connected" flowers and plants. The living and moving vases that turn clay/earth into the vital element of the plant's usage offer a constantly renewed experience for the visitor.

In the exhibition, accompanying the living vases by Gönen are her works such as ‘Cam Altı’ (2021), ‘Seramik Üstü Çiya’ (2022), ‘Cam Üstü Kıtık’ (2021), and ‘Alet Çantası’ (2024), preparing her for the formation process. Embracing randomness and contemplating the fluidity and variability of production in her sculptures, she aims to delve into the realms of material transformation and temporality.

Ankara-based artist Zeynep Gönen typically works on queer ecology in her sculpture practice, often using found and natural objects. Experimenting with the possibilities created by materials within the framework of process/time; curiosity, investigation, playfulness, and compassion are the main guiding principles in Gönen’s interactions with ceramics and nature.”

Ka is open for visits from Tuesday to Saturday between 10:00-19:00.
