The second International Intersex Forum to be celebrated in Stockholm where discussions over the characteristics of the Intersex movement, the setting up of priorities, and establishment of strategies will be at the top of the agenda.
The second International Intersex forum was announced to take place between 9th-11th of December 2012 in the Swedish capital, Stockholm. The forum will be the continuation of the successful 1st meeting which was held last year in Brussels and is being co-organized by ILGA and ILGA Europe.
The event will analyze the characteristics of the Intersex movement, develop agreements about the strategies to follow, and establish priorities for the movement. It is expected that this second international event will also provide a framework where international organizations working on behalf of the Intersex population can establish alliances and partnerships for future collaboration.
Last year’s forum culminated with a series of demands in order to end discrimination against intersex people and to ensure the rights of body integrity and self-determination. The main points were the following:
1) To put an end to “normalizing” and mutilating practices such as genital surgeries, psychological treatments, and others remedies including infanticide and selective abortion (due to intersex status) in some parts of the world.
2) To ensure that the personal consent, free, prior, and fully informed of the intersex person is a mandatory requirement for all practices and medical protocols.
3) To create and facilitate contexts of contention, communication, and celebration for intersex individuals, their families and other related people.
