The Future Party (Gelecek Partisi) President Ahmet Davutoğlu followed in the footsteps of Yeni Şafak, targeting physicians through transphobic myths. Davutoğlu had been mentioning the LGBTI+ community by referring to “the tribe of Lot”, when he was the Prime Minister from Justice and Development Party (AKP).
The Future Party President Ahmet Davutoğlu targeted LGBTI+s upon a fake news published by Yeni Şafak and Aydınlık newspapers.
Invited to the commission where constitutional amendment proposal regarding the “guarantee for headscarf and redefinition of the family” was to be discussed and then postponed due to the earthquake, urologist Zeki Bayraktar targeted his colleagues this time.

Speaking to Yeni Şafak Bayraktar targeted the physicians, who wrote the article titled “Endocrinologicaql Approach to Adolescents with Gender Dysphoria: Experience of a Pediatric Endocrinology Department in a Tertiary Center in Turkey”, by distorting the application of hormone replacement therapy to children diagnosed with gender dysphoria. Bayraktar and Yeni Şafak claimed that the children were operated on.
Bayraktar and Yeni Şafak also called the government to task over enacting anti-LGBTI+ laws.
25 institutions: Targeting physicians, who fulfill their responsibility, is an offense
Davutoğlu shared a post on his social media account by being in solidarity with Bayraktar, who was condemned by all professional health associations, for targeting physicians:
“The article, which written by the faculty members of İstanbul and Marmara universities and published on an international journal, clearly reveals that children under the age of 18 are put on the operating table for gender reassignment surgery, their vocal cords are manipulated, boys' faces are undergoing feminisation surgery, and girls' breasts are being removed.
I am addressing Mr. Erdoğan and his team, who gauchely slandered the opposition for being LGBT supporters, even on the night of the elections: Where were you while these crimes were being committed against our children? You will be accountable for it!”
This is not Davutoğlu’s first discrimination
Davutoğlu had also targeted LGBTI+s during his time as AKP Prime Minister. Earlier on the elections held on June 7th in 2015, Davutoğlu had claimed that homosexuals “caused the destruction of the tribe of Lot”. In addition “Gay Pride can be held on İstiklal Avenue” was written on an AKP pamphlet.
