Ankara Metropolitan Municipality responded to Kaos GL's request for information on LGBTI+ people in poverty's access to services and said, ‘There is no service provision for your request.’
Kaos GL Association makes access to information applications to various public institutions and organisations to remind them of their duty to ensure LGBTI+ access to services. Ankara Metropolitan Municipality was among the institutions to which the association made an application for access to information.
The association asked about the municipality's work on LGBTI+ people in poverty, what it does against discrimination, and whether it has taken steps to ensure that LGBTI+ people in poverty also benefit from social assistance.
Kaos GL's questions to Ankara Metropolitan Municipality were as follows
‘1. Does your municipality carry out any special services, projects or programmes to increase LGBTI+ citizens’ access to social services, health services or employment support? If there are such studies, can you share the details?
2. Does your municipality have a special complaint mechanism or intervention policy to prevent discrimination faced by LGBTI+ citizens in accessing local services? Is the staff trained?
3. Are there any measures taken to encourage LGBTI+ people in poverty to benefit from the social assistance (food, cash assistance, fuel support, etc.) provided by your municipality? Can you share detailed data on these supports?"
Ankara Metropolitan Municipality: We have no service provision
In its response to Kaos GL's request for information, the Ankara Metropolitan Municipality stated in summary that ‘we do not provide such a service’. The full response is as follows:
"The content of your application has been carefully examined and since our Department of Social Services provides services (Başkent card, fuel aid, etc.) for disadvantaged citizens (elderly, disabled and economically deprived citizens) as our priority, there is no service provision for your request. We offer your information and wish you well-being."
