MLSA Legal Unit lawyers have announced that they will file an individual application to the Constitutional Court.

Appeal against the imprisonment of KaosGL.org Editor-in-Chief Yıldız Tar rejected Kaos GL - News Portal for LGBTI+

The appeal against the detention of KaosGL.org Editor-in-Chief Yıldız Tar, who was taken into custody as part of the Peoples' Democratic Congress (HDK) investigation on charges of "membership in an organization" and arrested on February 21, has been rejected.

The Istanbul 20th Criminal Court of First Instance, which denied the appeal submitted by MLSA and Kaos GL lawyers, stated in its decision:
"Upon reviewing the case file, our court has determined that the nature and qualification of the alleged crime, the fact that it falls under the catalog crimes specified in Articles 100 and following of the Criminal Procedure Code (CMK), the duration of detention, and the current state of the evidence warrant the continuation of detention."

Following the ruling, MLSA Legal Unit lawyers announced that they would file an individual application to the Constitutional Court.

What happened?

Journalist Yıldız Tar was arrested on February 18 as part of the HDK operation on charges of "membership in an organization." MLSA and Kaos GL lawyers emphasized that Tar was being targeted due to journalistic activities and that there was no concrete evidence supporting the charges, calling the detention unlawful.

The appeal petition highlighted that Tar has been working as a journalist for many years and has participated in public events, arguing that judicial control measures would be sufficient instead of detention. However, the court did not find these arguments sufficient and rejected the appeal.
