“We don’t want to merely survive; we want to live with dignity. We insist on living.”

Bursa Women’s Platform made a press statement regarding the suicide of trans woman Kayra. Yesterday (June 11), human rights defenders gathered at Fomara Square and declared: “Trans suicides are political.”
At the demonstration, where a banner reading “We insist on living” was displayed, slogans such as “Keep your hands off my body, my rights, my decisions,” “Trans suicides are political,” and “Murdered trans people are our revolt” were chanted.
According to Bursaport’s report, the statement read as follows:
“We will raise our rebellion in every space we exist against the reactionary mindset that produces fascist discourse over the bodies and lives of women and LGBTI+ people. And we will continue to resist with all our colors.
The state does not recognize any life for women beyond motherhood. While trans people seek access to hormone treatment, they are subjected to humiliation within the healthcare system, and the processes are deliberately prolonged and obstructed.
It is always us who are rendered invisible in hospitals, ignored in schools, exposed to danger in the streets, humiliated in the media, and targeted on social media. Every law, every decree, every statement that erases us is the murderer of Kayra Helin and all our friends who have been taken from us.
We will expand our rebellion in every space we exist against this reactionary mentality that produces fascist discourse over the bodies and lives of women and LGBTI+ people. We will not retreat. We will continue to resist with all our colors.”
