Colours of Resistance participated in the press statement of the workers of Canada-based telecommunication company Telus, who work in İzmir Buca Organised Industrial Zone 3rd Region, on 29 October.

According to the news in BirGün; Çağrı-İş Union President, who read the press statement on behalf of Telus workers, said, "We know that Telus International is a multinational, Canada-based, so-called nature-friendly, worker-friendly company that constantly carries out PR activities. On the one hand, the Telus company paints village schools in Izmir for PR activities, on the other hand, it does not repair an elevator in the workplace where more than 1500 people work, and does not increase its capacity.’

Sezer used the following statements:

Telus does not respect the opinions of hundreds of workers. They leave workers in a difficult situation with their anti-worker approach and working order that neglects occupational health and safety rules. While they recognise union rights in Europe, in countries like Turkey where labour costs are low, they enslave workers with mobbing and harsh working conditions."

The Colours of Resistance also announced their participation in the press statement on their social media accounts as follows:

‘We want a CBA, we don't want slavery!’ We attended the press statement of Telus workers who are struggling for their union rights. We stand with the workers organising against mobbing, bad working conditions and forced resignation."

Why are Telus workers take action?

In January 2024, Çağrı-İş Union passed the workplace threshold with Telus workers and received union authorisation from the Ministry of Labour. Although Telus employs unionised workers in Canada, it had objected to union organisation in Turkey. The workers' resistance has been going on since January. Workers say they will continue to struggle until their demands are met.
