The 2025 Central Government Budget negotiations begin today at the General Assembly of the Grand National Assembly of Türkiye (GNAT). DEM Party submitted an opposition commentary on the budget proposal ahead of the negotiations that will last for 12 uninterrupted days, including the weekend.

In its opposition commentary, DEM Party drew attention to the increasing violence and hate speech:

"Today, the government's claims of solving social problems have not yielded any results and social collapse has been realized on purpose. Problems such as violence, depression, suicide cases and drug use have increased and social trust has been shaken. In addition, violence, hate speech and attacks on women have gradually been legitimized by the government and the media, and the signs of social decay have become evident. During the AKP's period in power, social tension has increased, economic inequality has deepened and the pressure on individuals has increased. Because the government's method of solving problems is to confront the democratic, restrict freedoms and increase social pressure."

In its commentary, DEM Party stated that young women and LGBTI+’s are the targets of the discriminatory policies of the government and used the following expressions:

“It is necessary to prevent violence against young women and LGBTI+ youth, develop projects to support their economic independence and create opportunities for them to realize themselves in cultural and artistic fields.”
