DEM Party Istanbul MP Özgül Saki, who took the floor in the General Assembly of the Grand National Assembly of Türkiye, recalled November 20 and called on “Parliament to abandon the hostility against sexual orientation and gender identity”.
DEM Party Istanbul MP Özgül Saki spoke out of the agenda at the Grand National Assembly of Türkiye on November 20, Transgender Day of Remembrance.
Speaking at the general assembly of the Grand National Assembly of Türkiye on November 19, Saki said that the parliament should publish a condemnation text against hate on November 20.
Saki said:
"November 20 is the day of solidarity of trans women against hate policies. I say let's condemn hate policies against trans people on November 20, because this is the most ignored situation. Let's abandon the hostility towards sexual orientation and gender identity in the parliament and see that LGBTI+’s are also engaged in political struggle in this country and let's pass a condemnation text against hate against trans people in the parliament on November 20.”
“We must stand together to fight for what is right”
Özgül Saki shared a message on her social media account on November 20. Commemorating the murdered trans women, Saki said the following:
"Today, November 20 is the Day of Remembrance for Trans Women Victims of Hate Crime. I respectfully commemorate all our friends, especially Dilek İnce, Hande Kader, Hande Buse Şeker, who were targeted by transphobic violence, murdered by hate crimes, and driven to suicide under the siege of the cis-heterosexist system. With solidarity, we will not step back from standing against the hatred produced by the transphobic order and continuing the struggle on every ground. Yesterday in the Parliament, we called for the abandonment of hostility towards LGBTI+s, to say no to hate policies against trans people together, and to condemn hate. As Marsha P. Johnson, one of the unforgettable pioneers of LGBTI+ activism, said, “We must stand together to fight for what is right. And together we can create a brighter future." FOR A LIFE OF DIGNITY, EQUALITY AND FREEDOM, AGAINST HATE, LONG LIVE LIFE!"
