Erdoğan targeted LGBTI+ individuals at the KADEM General Assembly: “The family institution is under threat and in danger” Kaos GL - News Portal for LGBTI+

AKP Chairman and President Erdoğan spoke at the 5th Ordinary General Assembly of the Women and Democracy Foundation (KADEM) held at the Atatürk Cultural Center. In his speech, Erdoğan targeted LGBTI+ individuals.

Using the terms "gender neutralization" and "deviant movements," Erdoğan said the following:

“The policies of gender neutralization, which even the West is seeking ways to escape from, are being advocated in our country, as you can see, by the opposition. While municipalities can't even pay salaries to their employees, they are shamelessly using public resources to support deviant movements. We are all closely following the corruption that has emerged in the municipalities adorned with LGBT flags. Of course, the issue is not only limited to the betrayal of the opposition, but we are also facing the negative effects of the lifestyle promoted by neoliberal culture. The institution of family, which is the foundation of society, is under threat and danger in our country, just like in the rest of the world. We are living in a period where the concept of family, marriage, and having children has been undermined like never before.”

Erdoğan, who also targeted the Istanbul Convention, said in his speech, “It is not the convention, but the law that preserves life,” and continued with the following remarks:

“Fighting violence against women and children continues to be one of the most important elements of our policies aimed at strengthening the institution of family. I once again emphasize the importance we place on the uncompromising implementation of Law No. 6284, which was enacted during our governments. It is not the convention, but the law that preserves life. With this understanding, we will, God willing, continue our steadfast stance on this issue.”
