During his visit to Erzurum yesterday (December 15), President and AKP Chairman Recep Tayyip Erdoğan attended the “Meeting with Young People” program organized at Bilim Erzurum.
Among the topics of Erdoğan's speech was also the issue of family. Erdoğan said, “Especially the stance of our university youth on the concept of family should be very different. For example, an issue we are focusing on right now is that young people are not getting married for some reason.”
Upon a student's comment that divorces are also on the rise, Erdoğan targeted LGBTI+'s and continued as follows:
“That is also increasing. Boys against girls and girls against boys are very troubled in marriage. We need to overcome this. From time to time I and my friends want to help, we say 'Let's be a mediator', but unfortunately we can't get girls to like boys and boys to like girls. How do you guys think? Let's not make a big deal about it. I got married at 25, but now we look at 30, 35, 40... It goes on and on. We should get married as soon as possible. Young people, you need to make your marriage at a young age, not at the age of 30 or 40. That's what I tell Eyyüp, 'Look, you are the President of the Youth Branch. Therefore, you have a responsibility to marry our teams at a young age, you will pay attention to this. And of course, we also have another sacred thing, we are against this LGBT stuff.”
