President Erdoğan thanked Italian Prime Minister Meloni for her ‘approach to the concept of family’.
President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan had a telephone conversation with Italy's far-right anti-LGBTI+ Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni.
According to the official X account of the T.C Presidency, bilateral relations between Turkey and Italy, Israeli attacks in the region and regional and global issues were discussed during the call. During the phone call, Erdoğan thanked Meloni for ‘bringing family values to the forefront in the face of LGBT advocates’ and for her ‘approach that supports the concept of family’.
Giorgia Meloni, Prime Minister of Italy since October 2022, is known for her far-right and nationalist approach. Meloni, who opposes same-sex marriage and LGBTI+ parenthood, claims that nuclear families should only be managed by male-female couples. Claiming that the LGBTI+ movement is a ‘dangerous lobby’, Meloni lists the values she defends as ‘God, Homeland and Family’.
