The Ankara Bar Association Center for LGBTIQ+ Rights and Women’s Rights Center made a joint-declaration and stated that they stood by Selin Ciğerci and would be a close follower of the process.
Following the organized hateful lynch attempt targeting Selin Ciğerci’s beauty center, which was about to be opened in Konya, the Ankara Bar Association Center for LGBTIQ+ Rights and Women’s Rights Center made a joint declaration and announced that they would follow the process:
“We regret to state that the history of our country is full of these kinds of sorrowful experiences of lynching attempts against trans women and, judicial policies and ideologies which never learn a lesson from a misfortune. On one hand investigations against perpetrators, who commit hate and discrimination-motivated crimes and who provoke public hatred, hostility and degrading, should be conducted properly. On the other hand, the punishment of hate crimes and hate speech should also be laid down explicitly by the laws and combat against hate and discrimination should be on the primary agenda of public authorities.”
