DEM Party Kocaeli MP Ömer Faruk Gergerlioğlu expressed the concerns of LGBTI+ families in his press statement.
Peoples’ Democracy and Equality Party (DEM Party) MP Gergerlioğlu utilized the following phrases in his press statement:
“LGBTI+ people and their families frequently reach out to us, expressing their distress. They convey their concerns about being labeled as perverse by the government, accused of undermining the Turkish family structure, and facing harassment during events like the Great Family Marches. They assert their rights as citizens, emphasizing that they should not endure such harsh treatment due to their sexual orientations.
They also express apprehension about the escalating pressure on LGBTI+ community and the potential closure of advocacy groups. They highlight the erosion of freedom of expression, warning that its demise could jeopardize other fundamental rights. Parents, in particular, voice deep worries about the well-being and rights of their LGBTI+ children, noting the restrictions placed upon them.”
