Five people detained arbitrarily by the police after the İstanbul LGBTI+ Pride March held in Şişli on Sunday, June 25, are at risk of being deported.

The police forcibly detained people around they assumed to be LGBTI+ after the march they were waiting to be held in Taksim and failed to match for it in Şişli. There are also non-Turkish citizens among the 113 people detained by using police violence. Five non-Turkish citizens are being kept in removal centers under the threat of deportation.

Injured in the leg but couldn’t access treatment

According to the information shared by İstanbul LGBTI+ Pride Week Committee, five people from Iran, Libya, Russia, Portugal and Australia, including registered and unregistered migrants, are being kept in detention. There is also one person who was injured in the leg and been denied access to lawyers and the right to treatment, among the migrants:

“This person, who is denied access to proper treatment, is trying to survive under state-controlled torture conditions. We need the support of all institutions in order to monitor the conditions and legal process of our friends, whose life safety will not be ensured in case of being deported and repatriated.”

They will be executed in case of being deported!

Iranian detainee is a refugee under international protection in Turkey. They will be at risk of execution in case of being repatriated. They are being kept in Tuzla Removal Centre and lost contact with the committee:

“We know that our Iranian friend is a registered refugee under International Protection status in İstanbul province and that they will be executed in case of being repatriated to Iran due to their sexual orientation, and we are very concerned about it. Our friend and their entire family are refugees who have sought asylum in Turkey since 2013 due to the torture they were subjected to in their own country and the threat their safety. Our friend, whose asylum application and refugee registration was approved, is being kept in Tuzla Removal Centre and we lost our contact with them. We don’t know what action has been or will be taken against them.”
