From hate rallies to candidacy from AKP… Kaos GL - News Portal for LGBTI+

Bahadır Yenişehirlioğlu, who spoke at the anti-LGBTI+ hate rally held in İstanbul, was nominated as a candidate by Justice and Development Party (AKP) for the first place in Manisa. Oğulcan Öztürk from Artı Gerçek, asked LGBTI+ right defenders about the candidacy of Yenişehirlioğlu, who became famous for TV series Payitaht Abdülhamid.

Yıldız Tar from Kaos GL said: “Now is the time for them to reap the fruits of their efforts, which were launched during the hate rallies. Thus, they believe that nominating a name from Abdülhamid TV series will work. This will not work. Since this convention implies an elitist perspective. And it proves that hate rallies had not been organized from the bottom-up. I think that this candidate will probably be elected with his elitism and top-down approach, however I don’t believe he will last long. Just because those who try to make politics in a vacuum, that is to say by being blind to people’s will, are doomed to share the same destiny as the former elitist intervenes.”

And Mahmut Şeren from UniKuir said the followings regarding the candidacy:

“This candidacy is the coming out of an open secret. AKP neither supported the hate rallies loudly nor condemned them at that period. In fact, they supported them in small ways. Metropolitan mayors participated in the hate rallies in some cities and parliamentary members in an another. We were surely aware that there was a support behind them. However, nominating someone, who will bring the voice of hate into the parliament, is a step forward.”
