Government proposed a Constitutional amendment: Marriage is between a man and a woman Kaos GL - News Portal for LGBTI+

The amendment in which the right to wear a headscarf is guaranteed by the constitution and which redefines the family institution is now proposed with the support of 366 MPs.

Özlem Zengin from AKP has stated:

“Family, in our constitution, is the basic unit of our society. For any attempt to corrupt the society, you need to begin by attacking this sacred institution. We, therefore, propose marriage to be included in the constitution as a lawful union between a man and a woman.”

The reasoning behind the proposal is “corruption” and “perversion”

The reasoning behind Article 2 which aims to redefine the family is that any alternative form apart from the lawful union between a man and a woman is considered as corrupt and pervert.

“To guarantee the continuation of our nation, the marriage as a sacred institution must be between a man and a woman. Through the amendment on Article 41, no other form will be recognized by the law. This will prevent any threat and danger posed to the institution thereby stamping out corruption and perversion.”
