Green Left Party parliamentary candidate and Labourist Movement Party (EHP) Chair Hakan Öztürk took the floor at the Green Left Party Spring Fest held at Yoğurtçu Park in Kadıköy.

Öztürk attended the Green Left Party Spring Fest held at Yoğutçu Park in Kadıköy at the evening hours. Thousands of people were there with Green Left Party flags. Halays were performed, sings were sung and Green Left Party İstanbul parliamentary candidates were introduced. Öztürk took the floor at the Spring Fest.

Öztürk said, “I see the light of struggle in your eyes. We will bring that light into the parliament. They talk about the necessity of being strong regarding the parliament. The parliament may be strong enough primarily when the speech of Kurdish MPs are recorded as ‘spoken in in the language of Kurdish people, that is to say Kurdish’ instead of ‘in an unknown language!’” to the enthusiastic audience listening to him.

Öztürk continued as “Secondly, the parliament cannot be strong enough unless the organizations of working class take part in the parliament. Bans are constantly being imposed on strikes. Working class must be in the parliament, bang their fists on the table and remove those bans one by one. They have to shout that they don’t admit none of these by drumming it into their head.”

Emphasis on the İstanbul Convention

Mentioning the women and LGBTI+ struggle for equality and freedom, Öztürk said, “Women sisters are waging an incredible struggle. They stand against femicide, harassment, and violence targeting women. LGBTIQ+s are trying to wave rainbow flags everywhere, they are fighting everywhere. We claim that if the women take part in the parliament with their organized power, voice and rebellion, no one would dream of saying ‘we withdrew’ from the İstanbul Convention!”

Öztürk, completed his speech as follows:

“We are facing huge problems. There is a hazardous government we have to fight against. We are facing a really despotic government. We are facing a one-man regime. However you see my fingers, if the fingers of this hand unite and become a fist, if we can take up the cudgels against it, we can defeat the one-man regime with a fist. We can overthrow it by being one flesh!”
