Green Left Party stated that they would struggle against hate murders and for eliminating inequality and discrimination against LGBTI+s within the context of their election manifesto.

Green Left Party, of which Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) will run in elections on the list on May 14 parliamentary elections, declared its election manifesto. The manifesto, which was declared on March 30 with a meeting held in Ankara, included LGBTI+ rights.

Democratic Regions Party (DBP) co-chairs Saliha Aydeniz and Keskin Bayındır, Socialist Party of the Oppressed (ESP) co-chair Şahin Tümüklü, Revolutionary Party chair Elif Torun Öneren, Socialist Solidarity Platform (SODAP) Spokesperson Kezban Konukçu, Socialist Refoundation Party (SYKP) co-chair Cavit Uğur, Platform for Social Freedom (TÖP) spokespersons Perihan Koca and Pelin Kahiloğulları, Labor Party chair Ercüment Akdeniz, Workers’ Party of Turkey chair Erkan Baş, and politicians Ahmet Türk and Sırrı Sakık from HDP attended the event.

A great number of non-governmental organization representatives were also there, including May 17 Association, Ankara Rainbow Families Association (GALADER) and Kaos GL Association.

Yüksekdağ underlined LGBTI+ rights

Messages from Figen Yüksekdağ, Selahattin Demirtaş, Gültan Kışanak, Sebahat Tuncel, İdris Baluken and Selçuk Mızrıklı, who are in prison, were read within the scope of the event.

Yüksekdağ, the imprisoned former co-chair of HDP, said the followings in her message:

“If their election strategy consists of attacking women and LGBTI+ rights; ours reestablishes the life, freedom and peace. We will tip the balance of this historical struggle and we will raise human life and human dignity up.”

LGBTI+ rights in the manifesto

Some promises related to equality of LGBTI+s took place with the scope of various parts of the manifesto. Some of them regarding LGBTI+ rights are as follows:

*We will ensure that necessary health services and expenditures will be publicly funded.

*We are ready to carry our contract, the İstanbul Convention, into effect; against sexist policies of the ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP).

*We will provide a structural pluralism in the parliament. We will make it a parliament of women, labors, people, youth, LGBTI+s, people living with disabilities, children, cultures, beliefs, and all oppressed ones.

*We will eliminate all kind of violation of rights, inequality and discrimination, particularly hate murders, against LGBTI+s in social, cultural and political spheres.

*We will take necessary measures in order to eliminate discrimination against people due to their mother language, identity and culture, and against women, LGBTI+s, and migrant and refugee women.
