LGBTI+ associations participated in the meeting on presentation of the progress report of Çankaya Municipality for the Local Equality Action Plan 2019 - 2023.

Çankaya Municipality  held the progress report meeting of the Local Equality Action Plan 2019 - 2023 today (November 29).

The report meeting, which was presented by Şaziye Dağlı from Çankaya Municipality Women and Family Services Directorate, was moderated by İlknur Üstün from Women's Coalition.

Gender capacity building activities of the municipality and trainings, women’s employment activities regarding the GİKA (Women Entrepreneurs) Project carried out in order to ensure support and incentives for women entrepreneurs, services for elder people and persons living with disabilities, participation and visibility activities with civil society, urban services and environmental activities were among the main discussion topics and progress on these issues were evaluated within the scope of the meeting, which was followed by the representatives from Kaos GL Association, Pink Life LGBTI+ Solidarity Association, Red Umbrella Association for Sexual Health and Human Rights, UniKuir Association and Ankara Rainbow Families Association (GALADER).  

During the question and answer session, managers from the Directorate of Foreign Affairs, the Directorate of Disaster Management and other departments of the municipality answered questions from civil society organizations.

Nedime Erdoğan of GALADER underlined that some communities suffer more from disasters referring the experiences notified by Lubunya Disaster Solidarity and emphasized that gender equality should be a priority for communities. Erdoğan also pointed out that hate speech, widespread particularly after COVID-19 pandemic, together with the hate language of the ruling party itself, causes LGBTI+ people to weaken their connection with the local authorities.
