Evaluating the blocking of Instagram’s access to Yeni Şafak, Hüseyin Yayman, the Chairperson of the TBMM Digital Media Commission, complained about “posting LGBT-related content” on Instagram.
Hüseyin Yayman from Justice and Development Party (AKP), Chairperson of the Grand National Assembly of Türkiye (TBMM) Digital Media Commission, evaluated the blocking of access to Instagram by the Information and Communication Technologies Authority (BTK) to Yeni Şafak newspaper. Yayman criticized Instagram’s removal of condolence messages about the assassinated Hamas political leader Ismail Haniyeh and said, “I support the decision.”
The point is again LGBTI+s
Yayman argued that “digital companies cannot ignore the law and moral values of countries” and equated the posts about LGBTI+s with “child abuse” and used the following expressions:
“It is not possible for us to admit such practices. While many content about child abuse and LGBT is shared, no sanctions are imposed on practices that ignore women and posts that encourage sexism. The Palestinian sensitivity of the Turkish people is well known. In this context, it is not possible for us to accept the censorship of content related to the assassination of Ismail Haniyeh.”
The headline of Yeni Şafak: “No sanction against LGBT”
Yeni Şafak newspaper chose to publish Yayman’s remarks targeting LGBTI+s with the subheading “No sanctions against LGBT”.
