We have in our hands only two criteria for all possible queer feminist responses to all these debates: equality and democracy.
The world we are familiar with in daily life is changing day by day not only through the pandemic, but also through the climate crisis and the new war technologies. We are no longer able to recognize it. We are not because in all these matters the philosophical, political and ethical conceptions that we have developed for centuries have also been driven into crisis.
Amidst this state of uncertainty there is still a criterion that we can take as a reference: our desire for an egalitarian and democratic world.
Taking its inspiration from Immanuel Wallerstein, the conference “The End of the World as We Know it – New Alliances” will deal with issues of war, new war technologies, climate crisis, nuclear weapons, arms trade, the changing face of militarism and Ukraine, the responses of LGBTI activists from Ukraine to the war, and the solidarity networks they have been building.
On the second day of the forum, we will discuss “gender” as another area of crisis. We will focus on the analysis of trans-exclusionary rhetoric, the backlash against transgender rights, the political landscape of anti-transgender politics, and how all these developments are related to previous discourses on gender, femaleness and femininity. We will also be examining how transgender knowledge is constructed within feminism, how "science" is employed in trans-exclusionary arguments, and elaborating on the broader ideological landscape in which these arguments are produced. And finally we will focus on the poetic, creative, and paraontological powers of Black and trans*. We have in our hands only two criteria for all possible queer feminist responses to all these debates: equality and democracy. Please join us to imagine such a world together.
