The committee released a statement on its social media accounts for LGBTİ+ rights activist Oğuz, who was arrested on March 22.

After Istanbul Metropolitan Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu’s detention and subsequent arrest, street protests erupted across the country. Oğuz, a member of Direnişin Renkleri and the İzmir Pride Week Committee, was arrested on March 22 while participating in these demonstrations.
Direnişin Renkleri announced Oğuz’s arrest by stating, “Among the dozens of people detained on Saturday morning, the first arrest news came to the lubunyas.”
On March 27, the İzmir Pride Week Committee called for Oğuz’s immediate release in a statement shared on its social media accounts.
Highlighting that Oğuz was arrested on fabricated charges, the committee stated:
“After four days of ill-treatment and poor detention conditions, our comrade Oğuz, with whom we walk this path together, was brought to court and arrested on completely fabricated charges. Those pushing an anti-LGBTİ+ law proposal, those using imprisonment as a threat, those targeting our lives to cover up their economic and political crises—know this: sending us to prison will not break us; if anything, we will grow stronger and hold you accountable.
We call on everyone: let’s strengthen our solidarity against the government’s isolation policies. We will not abandon Oğuz and our other arrested friends. We will get them back, and together, we will demand justice!”
