The 3rd Women’s Camp of Confederation of Public Employees Trade Unions (KESK) İzmir Women’s Assembly took place from 20-22 September in İzmir, bringing together 145 women from various unions, including Education and Science Laborers Union (Eğitim-Sen),Trade Union of Public Employees in Health and Social Services (SES), Media Communication and Postal Employees Union (Haber-Sen), Union of All Municipality Civil Servants (Tüm-Bel-Sen), and Trade Union of Public Administration Employees (BES). Over the three-day camp, participants engaged in panels and workshops on topics such as the trade union movement, the history of the women’s movement worldwide, ecology, health, and the international achievements of women’ struggles.

On the final day, Seçin Tuncel from Kaos GL delivered a presentation on "Practices of Working with LGBTI+ Communities." Tuncel highlighted the importance of inclusivity and diversity, addressing the challenges and rights violations faced by LGBTI+ individuals in everyday life. She stressed that understanding LGBTI+ issues strengthens the broader fight for equality and emphasized the necessity of collaboration between trade unions to promote these values.

In addition to discussing inclusiveness and diversity, Seçin Tuncel also covered key topics such as a rights-based approach to working with LGBTI+ individuals, strategies to prevent hatred and discrimination, and addressing hate speech in the workplace. He engaged with participants on methods of resisting discrimination and promoting equality.

Tuncel shared data from Kaos GL’s Private Sector and Public Sector reports, highlighting real-world challenges faced by LGBTI+ persons. During the Q&A session, Tuncel introduced foundational LGBTI+ concepts, often referred to as “LGBTI+ 101,” and received numerous questions, particularly from teachers. She provided guidance on working with families, schools, and administrations to foster more inclusive environments. The event concluded with an interactive discussion as participants shared their contributions and inquiries.
