Tülin Oygür, President of the Republican Women's Association, targeted LGBTI+'s by saying “Istanbul Convention is the Trojan horse of LGBT” at the Commission to Investigate Violence Against Women. DEM Party MPs said ‘LGBTI+ rights are human rights’.

LGBTI+'s are again targeted by the Republican Women's Association Kaos GL - News Portal for LGBTI+

The Commission to Investigate Violence Against Women convened 11 March under the chairmanship of AKP Ankara MP Asuman Erdoğan. Women and Democracy Association (KADEM), TOBB Women Entrepreneurs Board and Republican Women's Association (Cumhuriyet Kadınları Derneği) participated in the commission meeting.

Tülin Oygür, President of the Republican Women's Association, known for her statements targeting LGBTI+‘s, targeted LGBTI+’s again.

In her speech at the commission, DEM Party Istanbul MP Özgül Saki drew attention to the violence against LGBTI+s and the prevention of Eğitim-Sen's gender equality course by the Ministry of National Education and said the following:

‘When we say “We must protect our gains” in a strong way with those who want to live equally and freely in this society regardless of their sexual orientation and gender identity and who struggle against patriarchy, a group of NGOs calling themselves “women's rights” call us “deviant”.’

Republican Women's Association targeted LGBTI+'s and the Istanbul Convention

Taking the floor after Saki's statements, Tülin Oygür, President of the Republican Women's Association, targeted LGBTI+'s and the Istanbul Convention:

"I was subjected to the violence of keeping silent and listening. The Istanbul Convention is the Trojan horse of LGBT. The abolition of the Istanbul Convention was good for the country. The Convention starts with the history of violence against women but fills it with gender equality."

Oygür continued his words targeting LGBTI+'s as follows:

"Gender equality is an expression that rejects biological sex, expresses that gender is assigned at birth, defends that gender is acquired as an ideological style and form in life, is the basis of queer theory and is the basis of LGBT. Our state has not actually left the Istanbul Convention. Our state has thrown away the GREVIO Report."

DEM Party Diyarbakır MP Adalet Kaya: ‘LGBTI+ rights are human rights’

DEM Party Diyarbakır MP Adalet Kaya responded to Oygür's remarks by saying ‘Istanbul Convention keeps the Istanbul Convention alive, LGBTI+ rights are human rights’. She reminded that Turkey is a signatory to the Declaration on the Elimination of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW):

"The Istanbul Convention lives on, we will defend the Istanbul Convention everywhere. LGBTI+ rights are also human rights. Istanbul Convention is a human rights document. This is the most important issue. GREVIO is prepared by states depending on CEDAW. Turkey is still a signatory to the CEDAW Convention, you know that, right?"
