The Turkish Grand National Assembly Commission on Prevention of Violence and Abuse against Children convened yesterday. Radio and Television Supreme Council (RTÜK) and Information and Communication Technologies Authority (BTK) made presentations at the meeting. RTUK and BTK officials targeted LGBTI+ persons in their speeches.

RTÜK Vice President Feyzullah Tecirli said that they declared 2025 as the ‘year of struggle against LGBT’ and targeted LGBTI+ persons:

"In this context, our close friends continue their reporting activities within the framework of traditional broadcasting on on-demand broadcasting platforms. We have been trying to come together with series producers at certain intervals for two years. What we desire is to support family and child-friendly movements rather than censorship after the product is produced."

BTK Vice President Abdülkerim Gün also targeted LGBTI+'s in his speech:

"As BTK, we focus on children in terms of safe internet service and filtering, but we never allow LGBT content. In this context, we are in litigation with a large number of associations, and we are never uncomfortable with this, we never allow it."

KaosGL.org was also blocked for family and child profiles

In the past months, KaosGL.org had learnt that the website was blocked in the ‘family and child’ profiles following complaints from readers that they could not access the website.

Kaos GL applied for information about the blocking through the Presidential Communication Presidency (CİMER) and received a response from the BTK. BTK stated that KaosGL.org was blocked in family and child profiles ‘in line with the provisions of Article 41 titled “Protection of the family and children's rights” and Article 58 titled “Protection of youth” of the Constitution’.
