Speaking at the Child Rights Sub-Commission, AKP MP Radiye Sezer Katırcıoğlu targeted LGBTI+'s. EMEP MP Sevda Karaca said 'LGBTI+’s also need equality in this country.'
The Human Rights Commission Sub-Commission on Children's Rights convened for a report on ‘threats’ in digital media. On 23 October (yesterday), officials from the Ministry of Family and Social Services and the Information and Communication Technologies Authority made presentations.
In her opening speech, AKP Kocaeli MP Radiye Sezer Katırcıoğlu, Chairperson of the Sub-Commission on Children's Rights, targeted LGBTI+'s as “killers of our future and corrupters of the soul”. Katırcıoğlu claimed that LGBTI+'s are a “threat” and used the following expressions:
‘Digital channels have turned into a garbage dump of information and we, unfortunately, have become looking for a clean product in this garbage, so when we do a little research, it is understood that the LGBTI+ threat is served from digital channels, terrorist organisations recruit from digital channels, perverted people find victims from digital channels.’
Katırcıoğlu targeted civil society organisations, including Kaos GL
EMEP MP Sevda Karaca, who took the floor in the commission, stated that Commission Chair Katırcıoğlu targeted LGBTI+'s and said:
‘Mr Chairperson made LGBTI+’s enemies by saying ‘Satanic movement and killer of our future’. I think this is a violation of human rights. We also know that it is a statement against the Constitution, I would like to underline it here. In this country, LGBTIs and children need security, equality and rights."
Katırcıoğlu interrupted Karaca's remarks and claimed that they are not against LGBTI+'s. Targeting Kaos GL, Rengarenk Umutlar and Rosa Women's Association, Katırcıoğlu used the following statements at the closing of the commission:
‘It is beautiful on the outside, it is packaged, it is planned with beautiful words, but there is poison underneath, digital media is like that; it was injected, it was made to look beautiful, it was made to look good...
