May 1st, Labor and Solidarity Day was celebrated in Cumhuriyet Square in Mersin. Laborers gathered in front of the old stadium in the morning hours and marched in cortege to Cumhuriyet Square.

LGBTI+s participated in May Day with the cortege of Muamma LGBTI+. Police didn’t want to allow LGBTI+s marching with the banner written on “Lubunya’s (queers) flame will ruin the capital”, in the rally site. They prevented the banner to be held in the area.

LGBTI+s, who spread across the other corteges after the police prevention, brought also the banner in. They unfurled their banner and chanted slogans as “Get your hands of my banner” addressing the state.

LGBTI+s reacted against Minister of Interior Süleyman Soylu’s hate speech with the slogan “Goodbye Soylu” by referring the upcoming elections in Turkey.

Some of LGBTI+s marched with the Workers’ Party of Turkey (TİP) cortege in Mersin. LGBTI+s from TİP marched with rainbow flags and chanted “Where are you my darling / love?” slogans.
