“It is saddening not to be able to write while following the rainbow’s struggle for freedom and equality. I have full confidence that all my journalist colleagues will prepare news and articles on LGBTQ+ rights to make up for this and share them with KaosGL.org.”

KaosGL.org Editor-in-Chief Yıldız Tar, who was arrested on February 21 as part of the Peoples’ Democratic Congress (HDK) investigation, sent a message from prison through Kaos GL lawyers.
In the message, Tar greeted KaosGL.org readers:
“Greetings from Silivri Holiday Resort to all KaosGL.org readers.
We’re doing fine here, but my mind is outside. It is saddening not to be able to write while following the rainbow’s struggle for freedom and equality. I have full confidence that all my journalist colleagues will prepare news and articles on LGBTQ+ rights to make up for this and share them with KaosGL.org. For those who want to scoop me on the news—this is your chance! :)”
“An intimidation against journalism, an attack on the public’s right to information”
According to a report by MLSA, Tar, who also met with MLSA Legal Unit lawyers, stated that they were closely following the process of seven journalists who were detained for covering the protests in Saraçhane and then released a day after their arrest:
“They were only performing their profession in Saraçhane, covering the protests, yet seven journalists were arrested. As journalists in Silivri Prison, we followed this situation with concern. I just heard that they have been released, which is good news. But from the very beginning, these arrests were both an act of intimidation against journalism and an attack on the public’s right to information. I sincerely hope our colleagues will continue reporting in our stead.”
