Minister of Family Göktaş called for support for anti-LGBTI+ hostility at the "International Family Forum" Kaos GL - News Portal for LGBTI+

Following the declaration of 2025 as the “Year of the Family,” the Ministry of Family and Social Services organized the International Family Forum under the theme “Protecting and Strengthening the Family in a Globalizing World.”

At the forum, which began on May 22, Minister of Family and Social Services Mahinur Özdemir Göktaş targeted LGBTI+ individuals during the gathering that brought together ministers, policymakers, and academics from various countries.

Claiming that the family institution is under attack, Göktaş stated:

“Solidarity is being replaced by loneliness, commitment by transience, and responsibility by limitless choices. On the other hand, global ideological trends such as degenderization, which threaten the institution of the family, are rapidly spreading. Digitalization is reducing face-to-face communication and negatively affecting family relationships.”

Claiming that the family is “the guarantee of both the past and the future,” Göktaş called for international cooperation, saying:

“We must develop a stronger family diplomacy at the international level. Just like the environment, climate, or human rights, the family should now be a global agenda item. We must maintain a foundation for cooperation that protects cultural values while also prioritizing universal principles.”

Göktaş continued her remarks as follows:

“These processes that threaten the institution of the family and the demographic structure may vary across cultures, but they share common underlying dynamics. Yet we know that the family is not only the guarantee of the past but also of a healthy future. We must question this trajectory and reconsider how we can protect the family and a dynamic population structure in the shadow of modernization and globalization.”
