Minister Süleyman Soylu targeted LGBTI+s again! Kaos GL - News Portal for LGBTI+

The Minister of Internal Affairs, Süleyman Soylu, who has previously targeted LGBTI+s systematically said: “It is not possible for us to accept such thing regarding our traditions, religion and belief.”

Previously, the Interior Minister Süleyman Soylu said: “I regard LGBTI+s as a threat”, and due to his hate speech portfolio, he has been awarded with life-long Rotten Tomato Award by Istanbul LGBTI+ Pride Week. Recently, Soylu has added another hate speech to his LGBTI+phobic discourses and obvious targeting.

On 20th of August, Minister Soylu was hosted by Habertürk TV channel. In the program he used hate speech against LGBTI+s and targeted the community again.

“Europe has seen xenophobia and LGBT as an internal tension, and they try to transfer it to Turkey. LGBT issue has attempted to be legitimized by some political parties including HDP. It is not possible for us to accept such thing regarding our traditions, religion and beliefs. Such attempts like making it (being LGBTI+) public, spreading it, legalize or legitimize it… These slogans of those marching in Istiklal Street (during Pride), do you think that is it suitable with us? They try to legitimize it. This is not right. Personally, I don’t approve such approach ‘we do it how we want’.”

Asked him what about the right to assembly and peaceful demonstration of LGBTI+s and and reminded that as the Interior Minister he has to protect the rights of LGBTI+ individuals, Soylu said:

“I can say that individually I worry about the attempts of spreading and legitimizing it. This is that simple! I don’t think it is right! For my children, my family, my relatives, my friends, my neighborhood… I do not approve its political legitimacy or a life legitimacy. This is my choice and this is not right!.”
