Our X (formerly Twitter) account belonging to our online newspaper KaosGL.org, which operates under the Kaos GL Association, has been blocked from access in Turkey. Our readers in Turkey cannot access our @kaosgl account, which has 47,500 followers.
Our new X account has started broadcasting. We need your support to overcome censorship. Don’t forget to follow the @kaosglorg account, share it on your page, and recommend it to your friends! In defiance of censorship, long live life!
Our statement regarding the access ban:
Our X (formerly Twitter) account belonging to our online newspaper KaosGL.org, which operates under the Kaos GL Association, has been blocked from access in Turkey. Our readers in Turkey cannot access our @kaosgl account, which has 47,500 followers.
X did not notify us in any way about this blocking. When our page is visited, it states that it has been “withheld in Turkey in response to a legal request.”
We do not accept this censorship, which is a serious attack on freedom of expression and, specifically, on the freedom of expression of LGBTI+ people. We find it significant that the X account of a media institution engaged in LGBTI+ journalism is censored during LGBTI+ Pride Month.
Recently, with the blocking of many women's organizations' X accounts, censorship has become even more evident.
We will continue to tell the stories of LGBTI+ people—that is, our own stories—and to pursue rights-based journalism. This journey, which we started 31 years ago with Kaos GL magazine, will continue on every platform and every path. As stated in the press release of the Ankara Pride March: because this is not only a struggle for identity; this is to defend life itself.
We will continue our publication on X with the @kaosglorg account.
KaosGL.org cannot be silenced!
