Özgül Saki: ‘Male violence gains strength as a result of AKP's anti-LGBTI+ policies’ Kaos GL - News Portal for LGBTI+

Peoples' Equality and Democracy Party (DEM Party) Women's Assembly organised a press conference at the Parliament today with women's platforms, women's associations and independent feminists. Women's Solidarity Foundation, Women's Assemblies, Halkevci Women, Eğitim-Sen, Free Lawyers Association, EMEP and independent feminists attended the press conference.

At the press conference, women's organisations spoke about the declaration of 2025 as the ‘Family Year’ and the policies of the government.

DEM Party Istanbul MP Özgül Saki said the following at the press conference:

"We will talk about the meaning of the declaration of this year as the “Family Year” by the AKP government for the women's movement, feminists and LGBTI+. Recently, there have been intense attacks on women's gains. As a result of the AKP's LGBTI+ hostile policies and heavy attacks on women's rights, patriarchal capitalism is gaining strength, male domination and male violence are gaining strength. This government has actually erased the name of women from everywhere, starting with the name of the ministry for a very long time. It has placed the family wherever there is a woman. In every policy expressed by the policy of strengthening the family, women's rights and gains are once again usurped. We are aware of this."

Speaking on behalf of Halkevci Women, Çiğdem Serin said the following about the Family Action Plan targeting LGBTI+'s:

"All these family policies are based on misogyny and LGBTI+ hostility. In the Vision Document for the Protection and Strengthening of the Family, there are many articles based on anti-LGBTI+ and LGBTI+ hostility. What should we do? We see that all these impoverishment policies are intertwined with family policies. While family policies are strengthened, women are disempowered."
