Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) İstanbul MP Züleyha Gülüm, brought the discrimination faced by LGBTI+s working for private sector and public sector, in the parliament.

Zülayha Gülüm tabled a motion regarding the parliamentary investigation into the discrimination to which private sector and public LGBTI+ employees have been exposed.

The Parliamentary question submitted by Gülüm, bases discrimination against LGBTI+s in working life, on two reports published by Kaos GL and Kadir Has University Gender and Women’s Studies Center (“Situation of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Trans, Intersex and Plus Employees in Public Sector in Turkey”, 2020 and “Situation of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Trans, Intersex and Plus Employees in the Private Sector in Turkey”, 2021).

MP Gülüm also drew attention that LGBTI+s didn’t trust judgement and government agencies and didn’t believe they would get any results through official channels in case of discrimination they were exposed to:

“They stated that they cannot claim their rights due to the fear of losing their jobs, the deuce to pay, disclosing their gender identity without their consent, difficulties they may face in their lives outside of work and similar reasons.”
