Police detained dozens of feminists for “LGBTI+ slogans” during the February 14th Valentine's Day demonstration of Women Strong Together in Kadıköy, Istanbul.

With the call of Women Strong Together, feminists demonstrated in Kadıköy, Istanbul on February 14th, Valentine's Day. The feminists gathered to protest the declaration of 2025 as the “Year of the Family” and said, “We are subjected to violence, excluded and murdered in the families you consider sacred.”
The police made a warning announcement when the slogan “Trans murders are political” was chanted during the statement. At the end of the statement, when feminists chanted “Lesbian, mesbian, there is such a thing”, the police attacked and detained dozens of feminists.
All detainees were released later that night.
“You cannot criminalize our LGBTI+ slogans”
Women Strong Together made a statement on social media after the police attack and reacted to LGBTI+ hostility:
“Today, we came together in our February 14th protest to say that we do not want unequal love that kills, but many of our friends were detained on the grounds of our slogans containing LGBTI+. You cannot prevent our existence by banning words. Release the detainees immediately!
“The police, who warned that the slogan “Trans murders are political” was illegal, detained many women as soon as we finished our protest and chanted the slogan “lesbian mesbian, there is such a thing”. You cannot criminalize our slogans that we call LGBTI+ and defending our sexual identity.”
