Erdoğan used the terms “LGBT imposition” and “desexualisation policies”, linking them to the decline in birth rates.

Following Minister Mahinur Göktaş, who targeted LGBTI+ community during the presentation of the Ministry of Family and Social Services’ Action Plan, President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan also targeted LGBTI+ people, using terms such as “LGBT imposition” and “desexualisation policies” in his statement after the cabinet meeting.
Erdoğan made the following statement:
“We are going through days when we better understand the importance of the family institution, which is the pillar of society. The family institution as a whole is undergoing the toughest test of its history and is subjected to the heaviest attacks.
Desexualisation policies have reached dimensions that threaten human generation and nature. The imposition of LGBT has turned into a tool of tyranny, oppression, and corruption of society that even surpasses fascism.
We witness that the family faces serious problems in many different areas, from economic difficulties to urbanization, from individualization to changing perceptions. The recently announced birth statistics for 2023 have shown that our country is not exempt from these threats.
For a long time, despite criticism from the opposition, we have been drawing attention to the importance of the family issue on every occasion. The latest data has once again demonstrated our rightness. Declining birth rates are alarming in our country. We will put new practices into effect in this regard.”
Erdoğan reminded the Action Plan, Minister Göktaş had targeted LGBTI+’s at the launch meeting of the Action Plan
Erdoğan stated that they have undertaken numerous initiatives to “strengthen the family institution” and have prepared the Vision Document and Action Plan for the Protection and Strengthening of the Family (2024-2028).
The Action Plan targets LGBTI+ community, referring to them as “harmful movements threatening the family.” Minister of Family and Social Services Mahinur Göktaş, in her introduction of the Action Plan, stated:
“Harmful trends and habits that threaten all family members significantly affect the family structure and values. The family structure is being destroyed by global impositions. In this context, we aim to implement measures against all kinds of violence, harmful trends, and habits that threaten families and family members.”
