The Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University LGBTQIA+ community group Queer Owl organized a pride march on campus. During the march held on June 18, the Equality Day with Trans People, students carried a banner reading “Times will change, resistance will remain.”
Carrying LGBTİ+ and trans flags, students frequently chanted slogans such as “Not the Family Year, but the Year of Resistance” and “Ay, ayol, azadi” during their campus march. In the press statement read during the march, students said: “We, LGBTİ+ people, continue to exist on campuses, in the streets, and in every corner of our geography.”
Commemorating trans woman Kayra, who recently died by suicide, and LGBTİ+ individuals murdered in hate crimes, the students said:
“We will hold those accountable who took our friends from us, and we will keep those we’ve lost alive in our struggle.”
