The promotion for an anti-LGBTI+ march was broadcast as a “public service announcement” on the official website of the Radio and Television Supreme Council.

The hate march organized by the LGBTI+-hostile Big Family Platform, is set to take place again this year. Under the slogan “Stop this inhuman incursion,” the march will be held on 15 September in Saraçhane, Istanbul. Previous marches by the same group were titled “Stop LGBT Propaganda” and “For Our Children, Our Family, For Humanity.”

A promotional video for the march has been released, labeling the fundamental rights and freedoms of LGBTI+ people as a form of “socio-cultural terror.” The video also includes footage from the opening ceremony of the Paris Olympics and directly targets the LGBTI+ community.

Resolution added to public service announcements without formal approval

According to a report by 12punto, the Radio and Television Supreme Council (RTÜK) discussed the possibility of broadcasting a promotional film for an anti-LGBTI+ march as a “public service announcement” on television during a meeting held last week. Although the vote on the matter resulted in a tie—four votes in favor and four against—no decision was made to air the spot at the time. Despite this, the promotional material was still published on RTÜK’s official website, raising concerns given the lack of a formal decision.

According to Tuncay Keser’s social media account, during the meeting held on 11 September, a provocative promotional film for the anti-LGBT march, organized by the Istanbul Family Foundation in Saraçhane, was approved to be broadcast free of charge on television as a public service announcement.

Tuncay Keser, a member of RTÜK from the opposition Republican People’s Party (CHP), had expressed his concerns in an interview with 12punto. He had stated that RTÜK President Ebubekir Şahin had used his authority to post the material on the council’s website despite the vote being unresolved. Keser had highlighted the phrase “Recommendation period” on the page, indicating that the decision was not yet final.

In previous years, RTÜK recommended the platform’s promotional video for the march as a public service announcement.
